WINES-day Wednesday!

Cork Craft TIME!

That's right... my wine lovers... it's time to (again) put those wine corks to use!

wine cork trivet

{{To make}}
simply use a glue gun to connect the corks to each other,
making a square,
rectangle,
or whatever shape you happen to prefer.
You can use a mold like the image above, or just glue them together without one.
AND
then place in a thick box picture frame- removing the glass!

Meaning Monday

"something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue"

we've all heard this before,
many Brides make sure to have all of these items,
BUT
what does it mean, & where did it come from?

Well did you know, that the above saying isn't in it's full?
there is actually another line...

Something old, something new
Something borrowed, something blue
And a silver sixpence in her shoe.

and it's that last line that hints at it's origin.

sixpence- a coin, made of silver & worth six pennies, that was minted in Britain from 1551 to 1967.

So this wedding tradition is definitely English, and many sources say that it began in the Victorian era.

Each item in this poem represents a good-luck token for the bride.
If she carries all of them on her wedding day, her marriage will be happy.

"Something old" symbolizes continuity with the bride's family and the past.

"Something new" means optimism and hope for the bride's new life ahead.

"Something borrowed" is usually an item from a happily married friend or family member,
whose good fortune in marriage is supposed to carry over to the new bride.
(The borrowed item also reminds the bride that she can depend on her friends and family.)

as for the "Something blue" ...
blue has been connected to weddings for centuries.
In ancient Rome, brides wore blue to symbolize love, modesty, and fidelity.
Christianity has long dressed the Virgin Mary in blue, so purity was associated with the color.
Before the late 19th century, blue was a popular color for wedding gowns, as evidenced in proverbs like,
"Marry in blue, lover be true."

And finally, a silver sixpence in the bride's shoe represents wealth and financial security.
It may date back to a Scottish custom of a groom putting a silver coin under his foot for good luck.
For optimum fortune, the sixpence should be in the left shoe.
These days, a dime or a copper penny is sometimes substituted,
and many companies sell keepsake sixpences for weddings.

The Girls of GLEE...
((well some of the girls from GLEE))

Lea Michele
in Oscar de la Renta

Amber Riley
in Oliver Tolentino
Dianna Agron
in J. Mendel
Heather Morris
 in Lorena Sarbu

WEAKS of the Nights....

starting with the most obvious first...

Helena Bonham Carter
Okay, so apparently she doesn't take this whole "Hollywood" red carpet thing seriously...
which is good... I guess...
but while doing so... it makes us not take her seriously either!
AND
don't even get me started on the SHOES!

Heidi Klum
in Marc Jacobs
OR
as someone else put it
'Neapolitan nausea'!
BUT
to me
she reminded me of Ariel...
the little Mermaid...
I LOVED that movie as a little girl...
so I instantly thought of the scene where ...
Skuttle dressed Ariel once she got legs..
FOR those of you who have no idea what I am talking about....
this was the best picture I could find ...
however it doesn't show the sash/belt... ohh well!

the Bride of Frankenstein ScarJo
(Scarlett Johansson)
in Elie Saab
I LOVED the dress... just not as it is...
if it didn't have those sleeves it would have been PERFECT!
and speaking of perfect...
if her hair pin wouldn't have been placed sideways... it would have matched
BOF's white streak perfectly!
sorry couldn't resist!
side note...
what happened to her boobs?
I don't think I noticed that night... but in the above picture is stands out ...
did Ryan Reynolds take them as a parting gift when they divorced?
Michelle Williams
I think she was trying to go for the hippie chic look...
but I just didn't like it... maybe for a different event?
I don't know...
I just don't like the flower print at all...
wish she would have went glam!

January Jones
in Versace

(I guess that "V" stands for Versace)

I know, I know!
She made A LOT of favorite lists...
but I just didn't like it...
she looked like a cheap flapper girl to me!

Natalie Portman
I LOVE the dress & her so it hurts a little to put her in this category
BUT
I just hated that rose!
I mean come on.. who has ever seen a rose, stem, & leaves ALL be the same color?
AND
I think she thought that BIG rose would distract us from that baby bump!
(& by the way if she is due in the summer, is it just me or is her bump HUGE then?)
((I think we might have another Phaedra on our hands))

Granny Gown Girls....

Angelina Jolie
in Versace
Hey Angie,
Joan Collins called
&
she is demanding her gown be returned!

Leighton Meester
in Burberry Prorsum

looks like gossip girl is going to have a lot to gossip about!
the only thing I LOVED of this look...
her SHOES!
((I picked these beauties for 'SHOES-day Tuesday' here ))

Jennifer Lawrence
in Louis Vuitton
Christina Aguilera
in Zuhair Murad
Julianne Moore
in Lanvin
She reminds me of an updated version of Josie in 'Never Been Kissed'
 Josie Grossie!

Nicole Kidman
in Prada

not that this was totally awful....
(I think it would have been a beautiful dress if it didn't have that skinny sash with the bow!)
it was just boring!
AND
it blended in with her skin tone... so she didn't stand out.
((note to Nicole- DON'T wear white))

WINES-day Wednesday

Cork Craft
putting your corks to  good use...
by recycling them!

((& no I'm not talking about putting them into your recycling bin -
which you should do if you’re getting rid of them though))

wine cork bath mat

{{How to Make}}

Things you will NEED:

((just THREE materials))

1.) 175 Wine Corks
((don't have enough? Just ask Kathie Lee & Hoda for some!)) :)
2.) glue sticks
3.) non-adhesive shelf liner

PLUS
six tools...

Tools:
*knife
*cutting board
*scissors
*a long ruler or yardstick
*coarse sand paper

NOW just follow
5 Steps:

1.) Cut each cork in half lengthwise with a sharp knife.
Be patient & careful so you don’t cut a finger off!
((so drinking any wine during this step is probably not a good idea))  :)
Sand the bottoms flat if any of your cuts are jagged.

2.) Arrange the corks into a rectangle, flat sides down.
Use a ruler or the lines on a cutting mat
to make sure your configuration of corks is as close to a straight rectangle as possible.

3.) Measure and cut the shelf liner to size with a rotary cutter, ruler, and cutting mat.

4.) Transfer the outer rows/columns of corks to the shelf liner and glue them to the top side of the liner.
Apply a rectangle-shaped line of glue to the flat side of each cork, about 1/8 inch from the edge,
line up the cork with the edge of the mat, and press hard.
Wipe away any glue dribbles before it hardens fully, but after it cools (so you don’t burn yourself).
5). Once your frame is in place, transfer the rest of the corks to their corresponding position on the mat. You’ll probably have to do some arranging and trading places to make all the corks fit.
Then remove one cork at a time and glue it down.

You’re done!
NOW celebrate by opening up a bottle of WINE...

((Hey... you got to start saving up more wine corks for our next Cork Craft!))

So VOGUE!

Fashionista and contributing editor at Vogue Lauren Santo Domingo's
that she shares with her husband and soon to be newborn was on Vogue.com recently.

Where as not everything is my taste in style and I wouldn't decorate my own house quite the way she has...
  I still love her apartment.
That's the beauty of home decor, no matter what you do as long as you bring in furniture, art, accessories, and other items that you love, your home will be perfectly 100% yours.
I LOVE
the fact that she brings in exactly what inspires her and those things she loves
(two statues of her bulldog!)
and frequently changes some of the decor to what she is feeling at the moment
is totally a mantra I can get on board with!
AND I just LOVE that dress... she looks so chic and adorable!
  And that table is amazing.
Not sure how I feel about that skull on the coffee table, or having any skulls anywhere for that matter,
but to each her own!

my favorites...

just look at her SHOE collection.... ahhh!
